You notice the White-tailed Deer in the field because it's moving slowly away from you, only stopping to measure the distance back with a mocking toss of its antlers. It doesn't raise its white-flag tail in alarm. You will never reach it.
But you don't notice the White-tail that's even closer, the one hiding motionless beside the garden shed. It sees you, though, and waits until you've almost focused...
