Lark Sparrows along Saskatchewan Roads

Today, two photos of Lark Sparrow from a few summers ago, to remedy their absence on my blog.

(I noticed this while recently updating my bird index and adding French names... Yes, I'm again studying French.)

Lark Sparrow are among the most beautiful of our native North American sparrows — at least, to me. I love their brightly striped faces!

These aren't city birds — at least, I've never seen them in my small prairie city, Regina, Saskatchewan.

I found the first bird with another Lark Sparrow along a gravel roadway branching off a route through the Qu'Appelle Valley, not far from here. They appeared to pecking for bugs in the dirt.

The second Lark Sparrow, below, had already caught a grub for its lunch when I came across it. It watched me for a while as I watched it, and then it flew away.

What are these? Lark Sparrows.
